Recently, Michigan Tile & Carpet hosted local students for Career Day. Several students visited to learn about interior design and what a career in design entails.
Upon arrival, the students took a tour of our showroom as our designers explained what they do at Michigan Tile & Carpet and how they do it. In the conference room, the designers discussed classes to take in high school that would help in college. In addition, they talked about college classes, and the education that they will receive in studying interior design, like the history of design and art, sketching, drafting, etc.
Each student received pens, a scale, and a sketch pad for notes and designs before they began the project for the day. Michigan Tile & Carpet designers prepared two client profiles for a mock design project. The client profiles were bathroom projects and the students broke into two groups to put together a bathroom layout and finishes. The students designed the bathrooms and put together tile, paint, cabinets, and vanity top selections to complete their designs. A pizza and salad lunch gave them the energy to complete their awesome designs! After the bathrooms were fully designed, we ended our time together with the students presenting their designs to their peers and the Michigan Tile & Carpet staff. Everyone had a great time hosting the students and we look forward to Career Day next year! Here are a few additional photos for our day together!
